moderated by Professor Lucy Donaldson
Sunday 19 April, 4:00pm – £6.00
This event is live captioned | 45m
Join Oscar- and BAFTA-winning production designer James Price for an insight into the art of building cinematic worlds. Price’s remarkable work includes the fantastical Victorian landscapes of Poor Things, which earned him both an Academy Award and BAFTA for Best Production Design, as well as acclaimed projects such as Bugonia, The Iron Claw, Speak No Evil and The Ipcress File.
Beginning his career in television and film art departments before moving into production design, Price is known for creating richly detailed, immersive environments that shape how stories are experienced on screen. In this conversation, he reflects on his creative process, career journey, and the craft behind some of cinema’s most striking visual worlds.
Professor Lucy Donaldson’s research examines film and television style, audiovisual design, performance, and the often‑overlooked craft behind screen production. She is the author or co‑editor of six books, including Texture in Film and Epic / everyday: Moments in television. Her writing and videographic work appear widely, and her video essays have received international recognition. Lucy leads the AHRC‑funded project Ways of Undoing and contributes to the field as an editor, series co‑editor and collaborator on innovative audiovisual scholarship.
